PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Surfacedesign, Inc. was selected alongside Copenhagen-based architecture firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) to develop a master plan for its oldest buildings and gardens on the south side of the National Mall, including the Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Castle, National Museum of African Art, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the S. Dillon Ripley Center, the Arts and Industries Building and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Traceries and Robert Silman Associates, further supported by Atelier Ten, GHT LimitedWiles Mensch, Weidlinger Associates, VJ Associates, Protection Engineering Group and FDS Design Studio is today officially announced as the winning team to rethink the historic Smithsonian campus, world’s largest museum and research complex consisting of 19 museums, the National Zoological Park and nine research facilities.
