James A. Lord, Principal
Before co-founding Surfacedesign, Inc., James worked at the offices of Peter Walker and Partners, Martha Schwartz Partners and Hargreaves Associates. His stewardship of the firms design practice has produced a wide range of award-winning projects for Surfacedesign. James’ innovative approach to the firm’s projects in New Zealand has established Surfacedesign as a leader in urban design and sustainable landscape architect in that country. James recieved his MLA at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and his BARCH at the University of Southern California. He has served on the Harvard Alumni Council for the past 8 years.

Roderick Wyllie, Principal
Roderick is an award-winning landscape architect and founding principal of Surfacedesign, Inc.. He brings a comprehensive knowledge of plants and years of experience working with private and public gardens with a diverse range of private a public projects. Responsible for the disciplines of residential, estate and vineyard design in the office, Roderick integrates his passion for craft and a vast knowledge of materials construction techniques, resulting in some of the firms most memorable gardens.Roderick received his MLA at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and his BA in Music.

Geoff di Girolamo, Principal
Since his formal training as an architect, Geoff has produced a large body work practicing urban design and landscape design at the offices of Skidmore Owings and Merrill in New York, San Francisco, and Hong Kong, Pei Cobb Freed and Partners, and Marta Fry Landscape Associates. As a principal at Surfacedesign, Geoff is responsible for leadership for the firms’ many projects in Asia and large-scale urban design projects.Geoff received his MARCH at UCLA and his BA in Art at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
